Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a major ATC system failure halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were stopped due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are worked through.
