Reigning Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She received nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
