Formal charges have been brought against two men related to a suitcase robbery where a suspected pepper spray resulted in harm at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two counts of robbery and charges for administering a noxious substance, authorities have stated.

The charges follow an probe of an assault at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Earlier that day, two female travelers had their luggage stolen after exiting a car park lift, authorities reported.

A young child was caught up in the incident in the event. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were eventually allowed to go home.

The incident – which authorities stated was isolated and not being treated as terrorism – caused disruptions to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport road tunnel and the T3 parking area for a brief period.
